Although anarchy is a theme in Fight Club, the film reveals this impulse as only an initial reaction to society’s pressures. Once the narrator comes to grips with his situation, the anarchy in Project Mayhem is rejected. Rather than seeing himself as defined by his possessions, the narrator starts to see himself through his own primal drives. When Fight Club starts to change into Project Mayhem, there still is no good solution to the dilemma facing the narrator in Fight Club at the start of the movie. The lifestyle shown in Fight Club is never proposed as a legitimate solution to life’s problems.
