Purchase Travel Insurance Separate from Vacation Package

Back when Regency Cruises closed down a few years ago, those who purchased third party insurance to cover their trips were covered and got their money back for the cancelled trips pretty quick. Those who purchased travel insurance direct from the vacation package supplier were not quite as satisfied. First, some of those insurance packages were not insurance but were instead cancellation protection. In other words, if you cancelled early, you had purchased protection so you would not be penalized. If your trip cancelled, you were not covered. Others found they were covered, but had to wait the long legal battle before they got any money. When Regency dropped them off at whatever port they were at when the cruise was cancelled, they had to foot the bill up front for a trip home, extra expenses not planned on.
