Britons’ Monthly Internet Shopping Is On The Increase

According to a report by broadband provider, Pipex, Brits are now turning to the Internet for shopping, and turning away from high street retailers. According to figures that were just published for last month, Brits are spending an estimated £127 per person (each month). It was concluded that the increase in online shopping is a result of the hectic lifestyle and the long hours that people have to cope with today. They are looking for ways to cut down on the stress.

The firm surveyed 500 people across the nation. The results for last month’s online transactions showed that 43 percent of women and 51 percent of men bought goods on the Internet. The survey results showed that for every five people, one purchased CDs/DVDs, and one out of every ten bought their air tickets from the web, instead of from a high street travel agent. Another survey that was done by EasyJet on online purchase of air tickets, showed a 12 percent increase in online ticket sales, compared to the survey conducted three months ago. An estimated 93 percent of people with broadband UK internet connection, plan to purchase holiday tickets or holiday packages from the web in 2008. Internet connection has delivered a greater network security, and the convenience of shopping with ease and flexibility. An added bonus is the capability to search for multiple goods at the same time. This has taken away some of the frustration that consumers had to deal with while shopping on the high street.

The increase in online sales just shows that consumers are increasingly getting familiar with e-retailing. Their online shopping behavior is extending into more and more categories, and is making trading conditions on the high street somewhat tough.
